Mardi Gras King Cake

I’ve been craving King Cake since I came home, and I’m so excited to finally have some! King Cake is a Mardi Gras tradition, and the best ones are made at local bakeries. The official Mardi Gras colors are purple, green and gold. Purple represents justice, green represents faith and gold represents power. They are made several different ways. Traditional king cake is baked and covered with icing and sugar. They’re also made with fillings like cream cheese or strawberry. My favorite is traditional. A tiny, plastic baby is baked inside the cake, and whoever gets the slice with the baby is supposed to buy the next king cake. Good thing Mardi Gras only happens once a year!
